This course provides an introduction to quantitative and qualitative research principles and methodologies, including evaluation of research studies and application to practice. Critical analysis of nursing and health care research is emphasized. The course stresses research design, sampling, data collection strategies, and ethical considerations in research. It is cross-listed in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program as NURS 404 and in the RN to MSN bridge program as NURS 406.

The evidence-based practice (EBP) proposal assignment involves developing a scholarly poster that aims to address a specific nursing related problem or question using the best available evidence. The assignment is an opportunity to apply research skills to real-world healthcare challenges, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities among students. It emphasizes the importance of using scientific evidence to improve patient care and quality improvement efforts amongst a variety of patient populations and settings.
