Abstract
Many people today continually search for their identity in the world. In order for someone to effectively communicate, they must understand how they would communicate when they least want to, such as in a crisis situation. A crisis or multiple crises can affect how people see the world, themselves and ultimately how they will communicate in a time of trouble. With the use of Martin Buber and his view on I-Thou, this thesis assists in understanding the encounter with God and that He is what helps makes us complete. Helping others to reach this goal of communicating well, this thesis seeks to find out the characteristics sought after by a counselor, specifically a Christian counselor, if a counselor is chosen to assist in the development after a crisis. This thesis will assist in explaining, from beginning to end, the thought process of a person in crisis and how their feelings in the situation help the breakdown of process of grief, who they would seek to communicate with and why those people are chosen. Thus, assisting in growing the communication field by exposing the characteristics sought after by a person in crisis.
