Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the perceived communication practices between management and employees at the County Wide Probation Department specifically delving into the challenges presented in communication between management and staff. This study's purpose is not to draw a clear conclusion about miscommunication, but rather to make a distinction that identifies a problem exists and provide suggestions towards rectifying those issues. Some of the areas of concern include the various mediums through which important information is disseminated: lack of faceto- face the clarity and continuity of communication between management and employees. In any organization, managers should make every effort to facilitate an environment where employees feel that the communication is clear and welcomed. Anything less may invite a negative and toxic environment. Therefore, it is vitally important for management to be able to effectively communicate with staff if they wish to foster a positive and productive organization. A survey, including fourteen Likertscale questions was conducted and distributed to a sample size of 302 participants. Overall, the reviews were positive, with the exception of one or two questions where responses were mixed. However, despite the positive nature of the employees' answers, communication at the probation department can benefit from making some minor adjustments.
