Abstract
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, many Americans were unable to leave their homes, and therefore, they were unable to ignore acts of hate and police brutality happening in the United States to Black Americans and other people of color. Newman (2021) refers to this moment as the “double pandemic (Covid-19 and racism)” (p. 1). This moment inspired organizations around the United States to look at how they could find ways of improving or starting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Diversity has been a part of many mission statements for higher education institutions in the United States. However, as a person of color, who is interested in social activism, I am more interested in seeing these missions in action.
