Abstract
Dr. William Richard Miller is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico. He is an award-winning researcher and teacher with extensive administrative experience, including as co-founder of the University of New Mexico Center on Alcohol, Substance Abuse, and Addiction (CASAA). He served as an advisory consultant to the U.S. Senate Committee on Government Affairs, the U.S Air Force and Marine Corps, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute of Corrections, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the Institute of Medicine, the National Academy of Sciences, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the National Football League, and a county Crisis Services Advisory Committee to mention a few. His publications include 67 books and over 450 articles and book chapters. His best-known book, coauthored with Stephen Rollnick, is, Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Change and Grow (Miller & Rollnick, 2023). It has been translated into 32 languages. This interview provided Dr. Miller with an opportunity to reflect on his leadership style that has encompassed his 50-year career.
