Abstract
The test of our spirit sounds like a test we might wish to avoid, though we cannot avoid what Greenleaf (1998) called the ultimate test of spirit when he referred to the aging process. Aging does test our spirit, along with our body and mind, and yet it is not to be feared or dreaded, in fact it is a test with which we must afford great grace when it comes, to greeting it with joy rather than disdain, to welcome it. Greenleaf iterated his most productive years were from 60 to 75, indicating he made “conscious preparation” (p. 7) and also indicating he saw joy and sorrow in the journey. He noted his serving of others was different with age, yet he was still serving by “being” (p. 7) who he was, reminiscent of his admonition of the choice to be servant.
