Abstract

Caron E. Gentry, scholar of gender and international relations, reviews Cynthia Miller-Idriss’s Man Up: The New Misogyny and the Rise of Violent Extremism, which examines the relationship between misogyny, from schoolyard bullying to rape; far-right extremism, including extremist violence; and popular culture. Man Up demonstrates that misogynist thinking underpins wider American culture and that the accompanying entitlement and alienation lead to the violence aligned with far-right extremism in the United States.
