Abstract

Philosopher Joan Braune reviews Ronald Beiner’s Radical Right Ideologues in the Age of Trump: Heralds of Nihilism, which examines how fascist ideologues such as Steve Bannon, Aleksandr Dugin, Jason Jorjani, and Costin Alamariu (known online as “Bronze Age Pervert”), invoke philosophers, including Plato, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, in their arguments. It also considers why traditional philosophy departments have hesitated to acknowledge the use of philosophers in right-wing movements and how Beiner manages the risk of validating fascism as intellectual by studying the topic.
