Description
The 2022 “Freedom Convoy” that gripped the Canadian capital, as well as international border crossings, has become a central topic of conversation among scholars who study the far-right, conspiracy theories, and reactionary movements. In this paper, analyzing tweets circulating via #IStandWithTruckers and #TruckersForFreedom2022, I cast light on how right-wing extremists and sympathizers employ affective and rhetorical strategies of persuasion to maximize political conflicts, shifting the Overton Window in order to normalize hateful discourse into the public sphere.
